An alleged burglary of an Auckland retirement village has been described by police as “incredibly reckless”, given the residents’ vulnerability to Covid-19. On Thursday, a 37-year-old man allegedly gained access to the Pt Chevalier retirement village’s charity shop. He was challenged by staff before leaving the village. Police “swiftly investigated” the report of the incident and found the man soon afterward, Auckland City District police said on Saturday. All items had since been recovered, police said. The man had been charged with burglary, and would appear in Auckland District Court.
